Motivations

April 6th, 2004

High-level languages manipulate concepts that are closer to the user and the user’s application, as opposed to low-level languages that are closer to the hardware or system software.

Programming language theory better other software technology has allowed new languages to be created that make life easier for the programmer. These languages have been successful in the free-software community, partly because the members of that community take pleasure in developing beautiful software, which is made much easier by the expressiveness of high-level languages.

The members of the topic "very high-level languages" will present some _of these languages, either as introductory mini-courses or through applications that take advantage of the specificities of the language. We welcome all participants to discover, learn, discuss and help develop free software.
